walking but not walking
I thought!
Felt!
I was walking.
I was!
Moving!
Standing!
Legs together!
Feeling the viscous air, laminate, around, over me.
Turning left, then right, in fright!
Flicking images of streets, suburban mediocrity, floating, smoothly, silently by, my speed, escalating, with every move.
Looking down.
I moved my left and then, my right foot, forward back.
Anxious!
I looked up, around!
Alarmed, accelerating, like an obelisk of fright, standing, in disbelief!
Head turning, twisting!
Horrified panic!
As I could not grasp, the continuing silent, floating movement, through the world around me.
Dazed, disorientated, as animated, familiar, suburban houses, moved, shimmered by,
people, walking, gardening, washing the car, oblivious of my passage!
A dog, goggle eyed, in an instant, rigidly aware, tracking, my passage, with a slow, disbelieving,
quizzical, turn of the head, suddenly, rippled into frightened flight.
I!
Momentarily distracted, a wry smile, a strangled laugh, amused at the absurdity of these fleeting, floating moments, that only a dog could comprehend.
Tentatively, arms slowly, gingerly, extending, into a flying, stricken crucifixion.
Dragging, slashing scrubs, scattering, chattering leaves.
Forever accelerating!
The glow of exhilaration, eclipsing my face, suddenly playful, as a smile, widened.
As delight walked across my face.
Suddenly, laughing out loud in stunned incomprehension, sliding into amused disbelief, wonder, uninhibited joy.
Fearlessly, wildly, breast stroking, turning, back stroking.
With each move, escalating the acceleration.
I dropped to my feet, head down, watching as my feet, hovering, oblivious to sound, lashed by the long grass, a blurred field, stung.
Clutching my knees, as fear grabbed me by the throat.
What is this?
Escalating fear, crippling consciousness, sensations of a gathering speed, eyes shut!
Exhaling, letting go, turning, lying down, completely horizontal on my back, skimming above the blurred reality.
Eyes bounced open in fright, skies, clouds rolling over me, flickering sunlight, forever silent,
forever faster.
I sped forward!
Eyes watering!
Clothes, rhythmically flapping, flogging me, with the escalating speed.
Head turned, suddenly aware, of my shadow undulating over the ground.
Chasing me into green wheat fields, leaving a bowed wake, as the wheat husks,
sway, in disbelief.
Stunned, laying immobile, in rigid fear, watching the sky gather pace, as enveloping panic, head turning, a path, a road, flicked by!
Thrashing, gliding, effortlessly, at speed, as I rocketed under a truck!
The blink of shadow crossed my face, launching me into a maze of cascading, blurred, metal projectiles, as gathering pace, I woosh, glide, between cars.
Startled into panic, pumping arms, deflecting, bouncing, ricocheting, thumping between cars,
suddenly audible?
The assault of sound, screeching tyres, piercing acrid, burning rubber clouds!
People, instantly, collectively awake, startled looks, tracking heads, screams, shouts!
You are going the wrong way!
Rigid, hands, grabbing thighs, head locked to the skies, eyes closed, with each turbulent strike, shaking reality.
As instinctively, hyper aware, adrenalin pumping, I plunge, into a cool, trashing, green, gauntlet of flickering, springing, whipping branches!
Ferns, reddening, tearing, flaying flesh, ripping, shredding clothes, into a swirling,
whirling, ticker tape, of a vapour trail.
Spat, into blinding sunlight, at eye watering speeds, clothing strips, flogging me with increasing rapidity, chattering against the wind, as I stream over green manicured lawn, blood running, driven horizontal by the rushing air, flick path, flick beach, raising sucking sand into my tumbled, turbulent wake.
Gathered people, instantly frozen in time, break free!
Sprinting, shouting, screaming, running in pursuit, lungeing, clawing, falling away,
as the sandy, whirlwind ribbon of my trajectory, hurls me towards the sea.
Fleshy cheeks, wobble, gyrate, buffeted by my velocity, shaking, pounding feet, smashing waves, skimming peaks, showering cool spray, stinging salt, driving, rapidly blinking eyes into strobing visions of an endless, curved, emerald horizon, beyond my feet.
Toes, rigid, dripping, thumping into the waves.
Thud! Thud! Thud! Thud!
Rhythmically, crushing wavering caps, plumes in my undulating wake, pointing,
skipping, towards the horizon.
Hair, sodden, streaming in flight, head tilted, rocketing, curling into a towering wave.
A thundering, audible shot, in a blast, a fanfare of atomized spray, I catapult skyward, beyond sound!
Gripping tighter, head gyrating, left, right, looking down, at the disappearing cloud washed sea.
Ears pop, as I am flyinto a failing sun, chasing a rising moon.
Freezing air, laminating over my naked reddened body, heart palpitating, hyperventilating, in increasing panic, grasping air, rolling head, swooning.
As light, falls away, into starry horizons.
I slide effortlessly, into cosmic silence.
Timeless, beyond the troposphere, leveling, drifting, towards the thermosphere in stunned awe!
The last warmth, caressing my side, slowly, apprehensively, blinking eyes, aware of my floating body,
adrift, becalmed, beyond the exosphere, the last window to the universe.
The gravity of silence bites.
Naked!
Alone!
Suspended!
Weightless!
A final exhalation, my last breath, a prolonged sigh, escaping, into the universe.
